Canada Day
01-07-2010
Canada Day or Fête du Canada is Canada’s National day and a federal holiday celebrating the anniversary of 1 July 1867. On that day two British colonies and a province of the British Empire united into one country called - you guess it - Canada. This special day is observed throughout Canada and internationally.
Some of the activities undertaken on this day are parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, air and maritime shows, fireworks and free musical concerts. Not to mention citizenship ceremonies for new citizens.
Canadian expats will organise Canada Day events in their local areas on or near the date of the holiday. For example here is a link to a Brisbane event http://www.meetup.com/canadian-207/calendar/13691782/.
Canada is one of my favorite travel destinations. My husband and I honeymooned there in 2007 – love the people and the country – they have some of the best skiing in the world.
Happy Birthday Canada!
